tank problems

bigford

fish only
ok so my 150 salt is cycling and my wifes 55 fresh is doing great........
BUT here is the problem i was just offered a 265 gallon glass open top tank and stand for $500.
i would use the 55 for a sump. The wife wants the 150 for her fresh water stuff
:frustrat: :pooh: what do i do?????

can i just add 115 gallons of water and salt and continue cycling or will i
have to start all over again

You can move it all right into the new tank and the cycle will continue almost from the point you are at now. Better to do it now than when you have fish and corals later on.

+1 everybody. Make sure to really clean that saltwater out well before putting your freshwater fish in there. FW fish can handle some salt but too much and they will die. Also, be sure to clean the FW tank out well so that your new SW fish dont get anything that the FW fish might have had.

ok so we will be doing the 265 this saturday.:Cheers:
the tank has a 1/4 round trim peice at the bottom of the tank
any idea who makes the tank??

well me and 4 buddies went to buy the tank this morning. I brought a hose
my return pump and a 25' power cord. plus a pocket full of cash.....
We had to wait a hour for the guy to show up with the stand, when he did
get there the first thing out of his mouth was got my money!!!!!

Yup i got it,lets load the tank on timmies trailer and fill it water i tell him
Why!!! so i can make sure this tank holds water. He tells me that it's not
a good idea to fill the tank on the trailer because the trailer will not support
the weight of the tank and water. Timmy tells him that a military hummer
has been on the trailer and that they weigh 8000 pounds.. No go
I can buy the tank and bring it home then fill and watch 265 gallons leak
all over my floors.......... So no tank for me :pooh:

I'd have laid out the cash, let him look at it, and say "Look knucklehead, I am leak testing this tank, or I am leaving it as a bathtub for you, take your pick"

Sounds like you made the right choice, and just split with him holding all his gear.

That sucks...but good for you not budging. Evidentially, there was something wrong with the tank, for him to have an issue with you leak testing it first.

Agreed, that's the only reason I can think of that he wouldnt have wanted you to fill it up. You're better off having left it there then end up with a pool of water in your house.
