Tank tops

I have a 55g standard i have glass panel that cover the op of the tank it leaves about 2 inch gap at the back. So my question is should I use a top I notice that most marine aquariums are open any reason why?

The more oxygen exchange you have, the better. Also, a lot of reef tanks have heat issues, more evaporation=decreased temp.

Also, those tops block incoming light from your fixture, especially when it starts collecting salt creep.

I think the tank tops having the option to slide the top or with the clamp system is good
