Teeny tiny rant!

Ok so I Really want a Firefish for my 10 gallon. Nothing fancy just a regular red one. Anyway, the lfs here in Clarksville wants $29 for one when they are listed on live aquaria for 9. So I shopped around and the store I have started going to in Nashville sell them for $12 but haven't been able to get any in for 2 weeks now because of availability. I am starting to get impatient. I really really want one and now I'm contemplating going and buying the $29! I probably won't because that's crazy but Damn! Haha End rant.

Ps-I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum. It is about a fish tho! ;)

If its the LFS on Campbell Blvd, I'd skip it and wait for the LFS in Nashville to get one in. I wouldn't buy anything from there, their tanks look horrible. Did you ask the shop in Nashville if they could special order it for you?

It's $9, but don't forget their shipping charge...it starts at around $35 ;)

Besides...you shouldn't necessarily jump on livestock based on price. You should base it on quality, because you may find it somewhere cheaper, but it might be sickly and ends up costing you more on dead livestock. Not to say you can't find cheap healthy fish...but just don't base your purchase solely on price.

I gladly pay a lot more for some of my fish because the place I get them from sells super healthy livestock, so I know I'm getting a quality fish. I've never ever lost any of their fish due to poor health.

No its not on ft. Campbell blvd. It's called pet palace. I never intended to buy from live aquaria because of the shipping, I would might as well buy the expensive one. And yes I have been in contact with the owner down in Nashville and he said he would order them as soon as they became available. And I would never buy a sickly fish no matter how bad I wanted it or how cheap it was. I did that with a trumpet coral and I am making no headway with it. I guess you have to learn the hard way sometimes...

I know its hard, but you'll be glad you waited it out. How long ago did you add your goby? I've found with my 10g that I really have to wait far more than the requisite 3 weeks between additions, or else I lose livestock.... Not sure if this is just how it goes with nano tanks, or if it is something funky with the individual fish, but regardless I've developed much more patience between purchases than I used to have LOL

I absolutely HATE pet land! I used to go there to get my fw fish and i only have one out of many that have survived. Pet palace is off of exit 11 on trough springs rd. They are pretty good but just about everything there is overpriced.

You are here in Clarksville??

Yea, I went in there once and their tanks were neglected, and they were selling those puppy mills puppies, I'll never go there again.

Yep, I live right off exit 11 lol

If the Petland you are talking about is the popular chain Petland, then no one should shop there. They have been fined and cited so many times for getting their puppies from puppy mills and supporting abusive breeding practices, but they somehow still stay in business and keep selling dogs -- it's cheaper for them to pay the fines and keep selling animals that come from abusive situations for thousands of dollars. They have zero standards when it comes to the health and welfare of the animals they sell, and anyone that is a pet owner shouldn't give a cent of their money to that store.

I've never seen the petland chain but, I'm not sure if this is one of them. The store kinda looks like its in a converted old run-down house.

Yeah never liked that store but when I was going there, I didnt know of anywhere else. Now I know better!

And BL1, then you have probably driven past pet palace before. Its connected to Doggie day spa about a mile off of exit 11 going towards the walmart on the left. If you go, ask to talk to Mike or John. They are the saltwater guys. They get their livestock shipments in on thursdays. I will probably hit them up on my way back from Nashville tomorrow if they are still open by the time I get there.

If you really really really want a firefish, Petco usually has them. Now before people jump in about what a terrible place Petco is to buy fish, each store is different, so it's up to you to be a good judge of the quality of their fish! About half of the fish that I had in my tank for 12 years were Petco fish, but I was fortunate to have one of the good stores near me. I've been in some Petcos where their livestock is in terrible condition, and it's clear that their "aquatic specialists" don't know anything and couldn't care less about the fish. So if you have a GOOD Petco in your area, you might want to try there.

I think the closest petco is like 2 1/2 hours away haha. I might just bite the bullet and buy one of the ones from pet palace tomorrow. It will just depend on my mood or how much I spend at the store in nashville tomorrow. :dunno:

LOL ok, just checking. It just sounded like price was an issue.

Of course, I've seen fish ridiculously priced, too!
