I thought this would be an interesting topic. Have you every received the dreaded tank text/picture message about your tank while you are at work or away? Lets share.

It has happened to me twice in the last year...

"Hey, I think something is wrong with your mushroom...?"

Took some convincing, but I got her to fix this one surprisingly, lol.

"Your anemone is all shriveled in the rock, is that normal?"
After only having for 3 days it had me worried for a bit till I got home...just the normal shrinking they do sometimes.

anemone.JPG I'll play. I went on a motorcycle ride with some buddies for a week to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. My wife was looking after the tank for me. I had a big LTA, 12" across at least, that had been in the tank for at least a year and hadn't moved since it established itself after acclimation. Well three days gone the anemone decided to take a stroll right into a powerhead and got "chopped up and mangled" (her words). There were pieces all over the tank. This was 2007 so I didn't have all the technology bells and whistles that I do now to see what it looked like. So I told her to put on some rubber gloves and get every piece she could out of the tank which she reluctantly did. The anemone was the only loss but it was a big one;)

Luckily, I've only had one, and it wasn't so bad. My pet sitter calls in a panic because one of my clownfish decided to chill out in the overflow for a few days LOL I told her to leave him there. He'll be fine, and worse case, he'll end up in the sump. I told her if she wants, she can try to fish him out with the net, but with the overflow in the middle, it would be difficult. But they did it :D

One thing I tell my petsitters is that if anything dies, do not panic because it happens. As long as they're not overfeeding, there's nothing they could do about it. And the way I set them up is i premeasure all the food so they just drop in a packet once a day. But luckily, the clownfish was the only "drama" so far.

I was working with a buddy when he got the worst one... the floors all wet around the tank and the level is dropping. He saved most of it but had a glass joint failure on an 18 month old tank. My wife sent me one today that said youre tank looks all fizzy... definitely forgot to top off yesterday.

After my wife sent me the last text the other day, I started wondering how many others have received the same type of texts. I'm sure there are LOTS of stories...

I got one about my very first tank.

125 gallons... popped a seal. Luckily it only drained about halfway before the pressure was low enough to stop.

Just got the call...."Your anemone is missing......no wait, there it is, it is underneath the rock that is used to be on."

The RBTA has been in the same spot for 3-4 weeks and been happy and healthy.....decided it is moving or taking a break I guess...Going to be a long day at work.....

If your powerheads are not nem proof tell her to keep a watchful eye. Hopefully it is just a small adjustment.

I was having my 2nd back surgery last year in the hospital and my wife said my nem is missing. After a day I was home to find the nem in 3. It split but where I found the 3rd nem was interesting. IMAG0096.jpg
