I was does wondering, did I make the right choice with buying the small torch from the LFS instead of the larger one? how long do they take to grow?

I cant see to where buying the smaller torch would be a mistake.You'll get to see it grow out,and can take pride in that.
As for how long that can live.With the right conditions and no predators,they can live forever.

I bought a little $10 Torch Coral late last summer and then thing has grown 6 to 8 fold! Feed him! Its hard to see but he does have a mouth.
