Water changes

Does anybody know or can recommend a good water change interval. I have a 50 gallon tank and was told by the LFS person to do a five gallons a week. Is this too much or is every two weeks a better interval?

it is up to you .. 10% a week or 20% every two weeks is fine to do it.. I checked my params for a few months and 20 every two weeks works for me..

some people prefer small and frequent water changes, some larger and farther apart, its up to you , the farther apart you do it the more you have to change

The guy at the lfs gave you good advice...I'd suggest 10%(5gal) every week too.
