Whats a good water pump with better than 600gph? I've heard Rios can overheat, true?

That's what they say about Rios, but I used a Rio HyperFlo for a long time, and was happy with it.
Eheims and MagDrives are what I use now, and I'm also happy with those. Both are good brands with good reputations.

i use a rio hyperflow 17 for my tank and it has been a great pump no heat issues with it either.

This guy uses a nice Vortech model 20 wavemaker.
I am in love with this pump. I have seen one in action and I am very impressed.
For your (and mine) tank size, the model 20 seems to fit well.
Pros:
VARIABLE 500 - 2000 gph.
Comes with wavemaker
Magnet drive, no cords in tank.
Cons:
PRICE!!! $300.00.
But, this is on par for what other wavemakers (ie Tunze & Koralia) cost.
