Took tank apart and scooped the old (5yr or more) sand out. Naaaaaasssssty. When I started scooping it out as the water was being sucked out not only did it stink but was very nasty brown. Whats the best thing to clean the glass and stuff with?

I would just use very hot water and a clean rough sponge with no chemicals and nothing else

A vinegar and water solution works also.

Water and white vinegar is fine, and that will help break down some of the nastiness. Rinse it when you are done.
