What are these called??

Reefing newb
They only open the tops during the night. As soon as lights start coming on, they close up. Thanks :D

Those are a type of palythoa, I can't give you an exact name. They may be too close to your light if they're not staying open. Mine stay open all day long.
 
Hmm, ok. Thank you. I'll move them and see what happens. I'll also do a search with that name and see what I can find.

Snake Polyps are colony polyps with very long tubular bases with white feathery ends. They resemble many species of polyps in the Protopalythoa genus. Snake Polyps are photosynthetic but will normally only show their feathery polyps during nighttime hours when the lights are off. They make an interesting addition to a reef aquarium and will add a diversity of form.

I guess it wouldn't matter where they were placed.
