What is dkh

dKH is the German abbreviation for degrees of karbonate hardness, which is a measure of your tanks alkalinity.
Don't know where you read a fish needs a certain dKH, but they really don't. You are more concerned with dKH, calcium and magnesium when you are keeping hard corals.

we're just trying to tell you not to worry about dkh.... only worry about that when you're trying to maintain your ph (until you get into coral.... but that's another story)

Hi, Your right, why worry iff you don't have to. In saying that, Ph will follow the sg, To take the alk up, without it effecting the Ph, you need both sodium biocarbinate, and sodium carbonate,[ the latter being baked biocarbinate], one slightly raises Ph[ carbonate] and one slightly lowers it[ bio ]. A buffer is practically a mix of both, so as to balance the effect on th Ph, allowing the alk to raise without effecting the Ph. Just a little handy info. Regards.

As my understanding, in laymen's term, dKH is how easy pH would change. You really don't have to worry about it yet, until you have hard corals. The regular water change can take care of that. Just monitor your pH is enough.
