I do occasionally blow the rocks off before a water change though.

I dont siphon the sand but i do siphon all the crap on the rocks.

It depends on your substrate. If you use the crushed coral I do believe that some recommendations are to siphon maybe one side of the substrate and do the other side on the next water change, you know alternating.
It is just best to go with the aragonite in the beginning. But then again it is all preference.
