Why does my sump smell like wet dog?

I cleaned it out really today, but whenever I'm doing something with the sump and my face is near it I smell a odor like wet dog hair. Also the sump or maybe the protein skimmer sometimes causes a seaside odor in my room. All my parameters are good so I dunno what it would be especially since I just cleaned out the sump and overflow box and everything (did a water change too).

Try running some carbon...it eliminates that smell and clears your water.

You can also break it down and clean it all out. Yote cleans his completely out every month. Ask him for some input.

Ok I'll try running carbon, I was actually doing that before until I started growing chaeto algae in there. See the thing is, I practically broke it down yesterday. I took out the protein skimmer and completely cleaned it, took out the overflow box, piping, filters, scrubbed out the sump and removed half of the water in there (while sucking out all the junk that had collected in there and then replenished it with new saltwater.

If any of you have read my other thread also this has also been accompanied by the appearance of diatom algae.
