    Now this happened to me.
This lady came in Bermuda and was looking at the saltwater side.I asked her if I could help her with anything, which led to the question of which of the fish would be good and hardy for beginners.
I told her about the clownfish and damsels.Talked her out of buying a tang and such.Well, she ended up buying a couple of yellow tail damsels.
About 20 minutes after she left, she was back. With 2 dead damsels and a cup of water. After testing the salinity, which barely showed anything on the refractometer,I asked what kind of salt she used and how much.
She told me she'd used 5lbs of Mortons table salt.Said she didnt see the need in paying extra for a bag of Instant Ocean when she already had salt at home.

Wow! I just can't see how someone can think they could use table salt?!?!? Why would anyone spend a bundle of money on a tank and not do some *basic* research? I definitely couldn't work at a LFS ... I'd wrap my hands around someone's neck!

Man I'm only on page 21! This stuff is great. The clam story is in the top 3 for me so far. I'm surprised LFS employees haven't mobbed Pixar's HQ with torches and pitchforks for producing Finding Nemo. I actually liked that movie a lot until I got into this hobby, and from the things I hear at Petco and LFS' around town, it makes me really hate it.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to work at an LFS either. I'd be too angry all the time. Like the story of the woman wanting to buy 20 baby clownfish to give away as favors at her kid's birthday party!! Someone's going down, and it's not going to be me...

yeah that one was super bad, with the party favors. All this got me wondering, with Disney being the Antichrist and all when it comes to innocent animals, how many chihuauas will end up in shelters this year as a result of their movie Beverly Hills Chi......?
Does anyone remember the aftermath of 101 Dalmatians?

That you can have a Moorish Idol in a 10g tank filtered with a biowheel which is cleaned by a laser beam?

    I know, I was j/k

here's another good one from this RC post:

[quote:] the few fish lost to customers who dont know what they are doing is small compared to the fish lost to the shippers and so forth.

alot of times you cant say no to a customer but can jsut try hard to talk them out of it

if that one person dosnt get what they want word spreads ( usualy full of lies and you can lose alot more customers)

last person we refused to sell to screamed that we hated the jews and that is why we wouldent sell to her... nother guy ended up just stealing what he wanted anyways.... [end quote]

WOW! I won't sell you a fish that's wrong for your tank b/c I hate the Jews

    ok tie for first:

I once had a customer come in the store saying he needed various supplies. I asked him how big the tank was and his response was "oh its big, its like 200 gallons". Something about this just didn't seem right, he didn't really strike me as a big fish tank guy. So i walked him into our tank room and began to show him tanks, starting with a 265. He said "oh no thats way too big". We ended at the 10g, which he said was his tank. He said "oh a 10g tank, huh". I said "Well, do you think you could poor 200 jugs of milk into this?". He gave me a blank stare and just said "Oh, its the same kind of gallons".

    I wanted to cry.

By the way, my youngest named both our false percs Nemo. I don't mind it at all ... he is learning how to take care of "Nemo and Nemo".

People like this just don't realize that if they continue to rip off the local stores, or just buy all their stuff online after going to the store for advice on equipment, one day the stores will be gone and there will be no place to get stuff in an emergency. Personally, I think there is no substitute for walking into a store, watching all the fish interact/eat/behave, asking questions, and making a good purchase based on the experience. I know some people live too far away from a store so they have to buy online, but for the rest of us, we really need to keep up local support for the good of the hobby. (rant finished)
