Weird Red Algae

I have weird red algae with thick threads (unlike hair algae). It came in on the snails which are now covered with it like furry hats. I think it is a macro-algae. Now the stuff is spreading all over and its out of control. I really hate breaking down rock --it takes forever to get it back the way you had it. I need to take half the rock out and scrub and this particular algae is like trying to scrub pavement off a road. Advice please.

Saying that its like trying to scrub pavement off the road makes me think of turf algae. But that wouldnt produce thick threads.
I'm stumped Sen.Any way you can post a pic of it?

In the very last pic you can see new sprouts just beginning. What is this stuff? Is scrubbing rock my only option?

I have no idea Sen.But here some to check.
Peyssonnelia, which is some type of encrusting red algae.
Centroceras clavulatum, Wrangelia argus,Halymenia sp.
Also check out Dasyopsis spinuligera.

You suggestion bore fruit. Found a great website looking for those suggestions:

RED SEAWEEDS

Closest match appears to be : Rhodymenia leptophylla on page 4 - Seems like its pretty rare in tanks.
