I was gonna transfer my live rock to the new tank today and noticed these. The ends of this thing/things look like white and brown stripes when in the tank, yet, turn green and black in sunlight. Should I dip these things off the rock? What are they?

Update I returned my 30 gallon long. Upon returning, LFS employee advised me to not buy a glass aquarium, for a sump, when using an external pump. The chances of the glass breaking, near the huge hole drilled for the intake, while doing basic cleaning, are far to great. I totally agreed...
