Is This Overkill?

My current setup is a 55 gallon FOWLR setup (predator tank)......I have no fish yet but I'm cycling my water. I want the best pump money can buy. The goal here is to keep the tank as clean as possible. Any input?

thats a great skimmer, and you usually want a skimmer thats rated for twice your tank volume. reef octopus makes great stuff also,

Yeah I've heard the "2x your volume" tip before, I just wasn't sure if exceeding it would negatively impact the performance of the skimmer.

Also, I've never bought a skimmer before. Is there anything else that you recommend I buy along with it?

Everything is soon to be upgraded but currently I'm running:

Deep Blue T-5 HE2
AquaTop CP-12 Powerhead
Penn-Plax Cascade 700 (I realize this isn't ideal)

That's a good skimmer, for a 55 though you would be totally fine with the BH-1000 if you wanted to save a little money. I used the 1000 on my 75 for about 6 months and it worked great.

if you run carbon through your filter and run the skimmer youd be better off
