    Info needed on light fixture

I'm running a borrowed AquaticLife T-5 fixture while I wait for my LED's. It is the 6*54 watt unit. I would keep it, but it doesn't fit under my canopy. I would just upgrade it to ATI bulbs as needed. AquaticLife 6 Bulb T5 HO & LED Light Fixture - 48 in| ThatPetPlace.com My clam responded...

    Power outage

Look I to a "computer UPS". It looks like a powerstrip with a big box underneath. APC Back-UPS ES 750 UPS - 450 Watt - Lead acid Note that I'm not necessarily recommending that unit, but just giving an example. If I used one, I would only plug in a powerhead that would agitate the surface and...

    Power outage

You can also take a small bowl to scoop water out and pour it carefully into the water to create surface agitation and some tank circulation. I used a spoon to stir my tank, but I also had plenty of room so that I didn't have to worry about hitting anything.

44 gallon trash can hold water???

I found an option that I'm interested in for my dream system. A cone shaped tank with a drain on the bottom. Pricey, but I could use them to set up a gravity fed system that I could drain completely without moving them. IBFD35-SET | 35 Gallon Inductor Tank Until then, I'm using Brute cans...

My poor little fishies are just dropping dead!!

You said you use tap water. As water evaporates and you top off, impurities increase in concentration. It is possible that your current fish can tolerate the level of impurities in your tank, but that many cannot. I bought a RODI filter to eliminate that problem from my tank. If you don't...

newbie Taking over an established tank. need a little help

Re: #2 I haven't been terribly impressed with my local fish stores. Before you commit to 7 hours of driving, make sure they have a huge selection. I use LiveAquaria.com for my fish orders.

newbie Taking over an established tank. need a little help

MarineDepot.com I used them for most of my tank equipment. Their prices are good and their service has a very good reputation. I don't know how "rural" you are, but there aren't many saltwater shops around me, either.

    Fish food

I feed my clowns flake and pellet. I feed them 3-4 times per day, but only a very small amount that they consume in about 10-15 seconds. I'm going to be including more fresh food as I get a refugium operating. I started out with a very small amount and adjusted the quantity based on my...

    new tank water question...

RO/DI>>>reverse osmosis/deionized A high end filtration system. They seem to run about $150 or so for one in your house. My local fish store sells it, but payback on buying your own wouldn't take terribly long.

    disposal of old saltwater

I use about 4000 gallons of water per month. Roughly 30 per month are salt water. That is under 1%, so I don't worry at all. When I dump my water, I do partially fill the sink, then pull the stopper so that any sandy materials get flushed out and the pipes get rinsed.
