The only reason they starve is because the system can't produce enough food for it or the system isn't mature enough to support it. If the sand bed is full of micro algae then everything else in the food chain will thrive inc pods shrimp starfish etc or u could be very lucky. Imo
I know they will I should be upgrading in the future so they will be fine and it will take them years to get to there full size.the sand sifting star I have had for well over a year and my sandbed is full of life.

this is my tank it is 389 ltrs and is bout 16 months old most of the live rock came from my old tank there is bout 35-40 kg of live in the tank

just a little update tiger watchmen goby is coming out loads now he was abit shy when i first got him last week but is doing great now eating well on brine and mysis going try him with a few other foods see few he will take them. did a water test 2day and everything is fine result were Nitrite...
hey i'm new to the site. i got the tank second hand off ebay was a bargins really. will try a remember everything. i picked it up on a monday nite and after 2-3 hours of cleaning the tank and getting all the trop stuff out it looked like this
i added the water and sand bed the next next day...
