Yep they are definitely hydroids if anyone finds this thread and thinks they have them. Scientific name Myrionema. Search for that and you will quickly be as disgusted as I am. Wayyyyy worse than aiptasia(no natural controls)

I think reeffreak is right. It looks a lot like colonial hydroids. I found a pic at chucksaddiction.com(thanks yote, great resource) that looks just like it. At least it is not aiptasia, I guess it's the next best thing though.

Keep in mind that these things are very small, maybe 3-4mm across top.

I think this is bad. I have a good amount of it. Is it aiptasia? On a side note, check out that excellent purple fringing from my high dollar kit lens!:D

These were out of the water for a while so that is probably why they look so bad. I'm suprised anything lived to be honest. Any ideas on how to best thin out the mushrooms? Exposure to air definitely didn't hurt them. I finished setting up the tank last night and they went crazy today.

I've read that finer sand is the only good kind for a sand bed,do you think I should supplement some finer sand when I use this?
