Setting up from scratch - no canister filter?!

you are off to a good start. Canisters are now considered unwelcome in the saltwater world. They become nitrate factories and will produce more waste than they remove. The protein skimmer has less to do with coral and more to do with overall bio-load. The skimmer is a tool for removing waste...

New Startup 75G looking for LED

I agree with the others replies and will add that I encourage you to take your time and really understand the needs of the corals you want before you make any large purchases. There is a lot that goes into keeping sps, like water quality, flow rate, and as you've mentioned, lighting. Don't spend...

Just installed a ASM Mini-G and...

Yes it makes sense. I guess the other option might be to cut an inch or two off the tube so it will work for your setup. I think i'd rather raise it, but cutting may be an option too.

My Flame angel has more problems

I agree with the others that moving it now would be a mistake. just keep it eating and make sure you are feeding it good food with vitamin C. Also... $70 seems a bit high for a Flame... Might consider a new LFS

Just installed a ASM Mini-G and...

Hey David. I use the G4 with great success. I hope you find yours to be great too. I think you are going to be okay to operate the way you have it. It is just a matter of adjusting it. With the tube removed, you get no skimmate reaching the cup, but with it installed you say it's filling the...

    PVC pipes as overflows

PVC does great as a standpipe. In my first acrylic tank I used two pvc standpipes. The only problem I had was that they are loud so just make sure your plans include a muffler and it will work great! One additional thought... If you are only planning on one, if it ever plugs, you will have a...

    Looking for idea's and recommendations.....

First thing you should do is look around for a deal on something used. I found my MH's for under $100. That was a no brainer considering that the reflectors alone would cost more than that new.

3 Tier Frag Rack System w/ LEDs

That is a pretty cool setup! I would think long term, you probably ought to put the LR in the top tank since LR will require the least maintenance, and that tank is the hardest to reach.

Articles > Fish Disease > NOTHING?!?!

I have actually switched to keeping crabs in my sump as I think they are neat creatures and I enjoy having them, but that doesn't change the fact that they are evil! I have a fiddler, emerald, and some hermits.
