    Say NO to Medusa...

Just a heads-up... I see Medusa worms for sale sometimes as reef cleaners. They ARE excellent cleaners....BUT !! I had one die in my tank a couple of years ago and kill every living thing in there except the coral. Very toxic! Find a different janitor!

small red bristle worms eating coral HELP!

Also, critters like Arrow Crabs and peppermint shrimp are good for pests. Arrow may eat worms, as well as coral banded shrimp. Peppermint shrimp got rid of aiptasia for me last year.

    Large white star found

The ones to watch for have 2 longer arms than the rest. Asymetrical looking stars. These stars ith the 2 long arms are verified coral predators. "Most" of the other small stars seem to be okay, in particular the micro brittle stars....

    Octopus Tank

I'm a diver. LOVE finding octopi. "An octopuses garden" is the dozens of empty clam shells that clue you in that there's an Octopus in the reef holes. Beautiful, smart, amazing creatures. That said... leave them in the ocean. Lifespan issue addressed, escape artist addressed, and...

Which pest? For Aptasia, the peppermint shrimp ate them ALL... it was great. I also have a six-line wrasse which picks at the liverock. No pests here...

    Seeding Rock

when starting a tank, I LOVE using some Grunge from GARF. GARF.org sells a bag of "stuff", it's basically crushed coral that's FULL of micro stars, sponge seed, copipods, etc. You just dump it in and mix with your sand, and WHAM.. a week later you have critters everywhere. Keeps the tank...

    Closed up clams.

I spent a lot of money ob clams over the years. After 6 KIA, I gave up. Beautiful creatures that are so darn sensitive. I've had zero luck... might not be you doing anything obviously wrong. Do you ever feed them with phyto or reefsnow?

    too many hermit crabs?

That's a lot of hermits, but that said, I keep a lot in my tanks as well. They WILL eat snails occasionally, and I don't keep clams anymore because they killed one. (At least, I'm blaming them.) But, they are great cleaners and will eat just about all the crud including cyano bacteria, hair...

    Is my torch toast?

"where did the salt come from"... remember, when water evaporates from your tank, the salt STAYS. When you add water, you add dechlor freshwater! Also, have you fed the coral? Some phytoplankton at night (turkey baster) might help~

    Diamond Goby

Keep Looking !!! It will be the dried up looking thing about 10 feet away from your tank... provided you don't own a cat or dog...

    Diamond Goby

I had mine....for 24 hours. Found his dried up body a few feet from the tank. He jumped through a 2" opening at the back...must have flown 3 feet. : (

White powdery crud in water mix

I would guess calcium coming out out of suspension because the levels are too high. A quick check with your test kit would confirm that~

    Where are my 'pods?

I use GARF "Grunge" in my tank. (www.garf.com) The grunge is crushed up coral and coralline algae and "stuff" that is rich in biodiversity. Because it is rubble-sized, it offers places for the pods to hide. I have a very large, very fat and happy Mandarin Dragonet that always has plenty to...
