    clownfish are hiding in corner

It seemed to take my clowns the better part of a year to become adjusted to the tank. For the longest time after I got them they stuck to the powerhead or the back corners of the tank. Now they are everywhere, retreating to their hosted spots mainly at night.

    Emrald crab or not?

I have been trying to decide weather or not to get one of these guys for my tank. I have some red wiry turf algae, some red bubble algae, and some lobophora. According to reefcleaners.org an emerald crab might like to eat all three of these. I've been reading about Emerald crabs for some...

    my blenny bites

My blenny heads for his barnacle shell when I stick my hand in, but my clowns attack like crazy. Like Wonton said, even though it dosent hurt, they are so aggressive it looks like it should. They will even chase my hand around the tank.

    Zoa's Spreading

My zoas seemed to take forever to get going, i started with 2 different types on small chunks of live rock, just a couple of poloyps each. I noticed little "runners" start to spread out from the bottom which soon sprouted poloyps. Once their numbers increased they started spreading like...

    fish for biocube 29

Totally agree, i have an orange spot watchman with a tiger shrimp in my biocube and they are awsome. The shrimp is such an amazing worker. The midas blenny is super cool too. He is always swimming in front and I swear he acts like a little dog.

    Dead Shrimp

Earlier in the day he seemed sluggish and almost appeared to be having trouble moving about the rocks. Then i saw my clownfish both harassing him, which i never saw before. He seemed like he was struggling to get away from them. He made his way to the side of a rock in the corner and stayed...

    Dangerously Low PH?

It seems like water issues were not the cause of death for my shrimp then. The water i use for changes tests higher before its in my tank. What could cause it to drop? If anything i would expect it to rise a bit once its added. Should I use a buffer to increase alk?

to those who hate water changes

My tank is just over a year old now, and I've done water changes just about every week since it went up. I think I owe the success I've had to frequent water changes. Since my tank is only 30 gallons the 3-5 gallon changes I do are easy and quick. I hope to someday build a huge tank, and...

    Dangerously Low PH?

I agree, however I got a big bottle of the stuff at the recommendation of the LFS when I first started and just figured I would finish it off. I'm sure not going to buy any more. I tested the ph again this morning and the results are the same, still reading a 7.8. So thats not too low...

    Dangerously Low PH?

The Alk seems low too. Looks to be 1.5 - 1.6. Though this is my least favorite test, It uses a gradient that seems to make it a bit vague. Its hard to be exact, but for sure on the low side. I do have a small bottle of red sea success buff, but have never used it. The only thing I use is...

    Dangerously Low PH?

I had a peppermint shrimp die today as described in the invert forum. This prompted me to test my water again. Temp 79 - 81 Spec Grav .025 Calcium 400 Phosphate 0 Nitrate 0 Nitrite 0 Ammonia .10? (I can't say its zero but its far from .25 which is the first reading on the color...

    Dead Shrimp

So, I just did tests. Looks like my ph is low. The lights went out right before I tested, and I'm getting a 7.8. It was a bit low the last time I tested, but It was in the morning before the lights came on so I didn't worry too much. 7.8 low enough to kill a shrimp? All of the other tests...

    Dead Shrimp

Thanks! Not molt for sure. I did test just a couple of days ago before a water change and everything was good, but i will do it again to be sure. I was mainly worried about the corpse, like I said he is kinda big and fell into a rather isolated part of the tank. If it dosent seem like the...

    Dead Shrimp

Greetings, So my peppermint shrimp died today, I'm not sure of the cause. I haven't had him for too long, but this guy was the biggest peppermint shrimp I've yet seen in person, so he may have been old. I plan on running tests tonight, is there anything in particular I should look for as far...

    flatworms

I looked at the hob, i dont think that will work to well thanks to the design of the biocube. There really isn't a good place to put it. Ill see if i can find a better net for the removal job. I will also plan for a bigger than usual water change so I can try and suck out bodies that way...

    flatworms

Thanks guys. I want to try the flatworm exit, but I have a few concerns. These guys are so tiny it is going to be hard to determine if the stuff is killing them, I guess seeing them come off the glass will be the indicator. Once they begin to perish, I'm not confident that I can remove...

    flatworms

So i have been seeing these tiny rust colored specs on my glass for months now. The biggest may be just over 1/16th of an inch. I can probably count at least a dozen of them on any given day. Their numbers have not appeared to increase over the months and at first I figured they were some type...

Help with coralife mini aqua light...

UGH! One of the replacements they sent me has failed all ready! I find this crazy. Could these fixtures really be that bad? I feel like I have to be doing something wrong, but they are lights, they stay dry and free of corrosion. I leave it on 24 hours as recommended by the manual. I have...

    starfish multiplied.

WOW! That's awesome! Not too mention gross. How often do they do that? I very seldom see more than some stray tentacles, but those look exactly like the ones i've found in my tank.
