A lot of fish stores sell it some even have the salt premixed. I thought about doing this this way, but did not like the idea on drive in Utah's winters to the fish store to get water so I bought my own system. In the long run cheaper, and no extra buying at the pet store.

The Ammonia will work and less smell. Just make sure it's PURE. If you shake no bubbles. Ace hard well sells good stiff. I've used it for all my fresh and salt water tanks.

The smell factor I'd say maybe both. As far as the skimmer, I've heard both ways. I did not have mine at first.

If you watch the video they put out it said 120 running CFO or Carbon alone or 60 mixed, so yeah you'd be pushing it with your 150.
