2 teir tank question

hello, i am new to this hobby & to this site. i have a 110 gal tank & i was thinking of setting half of the tank floor 6 inches higher so theres 2 teirs within the tank. i was thinking if making a plexiglass box 6 inches high and silicone it down. have any of you tried to do this? if so, how did you do yours? i am looking to make like a rock shelf if that is posible, thats why i wanted the 2 teir effect.

It would be easier to accomplish the rock teir look by building a PVC structure to set and attach them to. Much more stable as well.
