I have a beautiful green and white acan, but I have a question, do they encrust on to the rock or how do they grow?

They have a skeleton that their "Skin" grows on. They don't really encrust like other corals.

+1 Brian -- it won't attach to the rock. They will grow their skeleton out as they expand.

On a side note, I purchased mine and it died within 2 weeks after I bought it. It was a very nice looking piece for like $55. Please be very careful acclimating it if you haven't bought it yet, and if you have, make sure to acclimate it to the light very slowly. I don't know for sure, but I think that's what killed mine. Everything else in my tank is thriving with great water conditions, so that had to be the reason.
All in all, it was a sad loss. Don't make my mistake. Give it a little shady spot to start off if you have strong lights.
EDIT: Sorry for the buzz-kill, I just don't want the same thing happening to yours. They really are an awesome coral and I'd like to try again one day. I'm sure yours will do awesome.

They are fairly hardy so just take your time light acclimating.
