Alkalinity

I have got the small BRS package I have a 60g total water, I got it just before x-mas and have not made a big dent but I would get the LG if you can save some $ down the road... I wouldn't use anything else after using this.

Can't baking soda be harmful though, do to silicate binding compounds and the fact that it can't get your pH up beyond 8.2?

Baked baking soda is OK if your ph is 8.3 or lower. Regular baking soda is better if the ph is on the high side, 8.4 or higher.
It also mixes easier in RO water than saltwater

So my pH is 8.4, how much would I want to add to raise my alkalinity. When I checked my alkalinity was 6 the other day and calcium was like 420. I just did a water change so I'd have to check again for sure but most of the time it seems to stay around the same. I could always mix quantities in my RO/DI water that I use to top off for evaporation.
