Most of us just swap the bulbs every 12 to 18 months.

Sometimes you'll start to see your livestock become more and more unhealthy, but it's hard to definitively say that's due to old bulbs. Unless you have instruments to measure the light output and spectrum, there's no way to know for sure that your bulbs are going bad.

I ask for new bulbs for every christmas. Family thinks I am weird, but it saves me money that I can spend on other things.

I replace my T5 every 12 months regardless.Daylight bulbs tend to get more yellowish and actinics tend to lose the brightness to balance the colors when they get to old.
