Bubbles in sand

Due to my recent bad luck streak I was wondering what could cause it. Looking at my tank they sand bed has pockets of air it it. What could that be? Also there is a diatom on my sand that creates bubbles(and on rocks) any Ideas?

The bubbles on your sand and rocks are the start to an algae bloom. Usually when I start to see alot of bubbles all over the place like that, I'll have an algae outbreak start about a week later.

Usually when I find bubbles it ends up being cyano.

sounds like youve just got diatoms, they will clear up when the tanks done cycling. Nothing to be alarmed about.
