Chateo died off completely

A couple weeks ago I threw out 80 or 90% of my chaeto becuase it was rotting out like bad lettuce in the frig that gets a brown slime. I pulled the last 10% out today and it had slime also. I'm thinking the 7 watt 6500K bulb just wasn't enough. Previously it grew well under a 20 watt halogen bulb. I've put a new 20 watt halogen next to the 7 watt bulb. This happened to anybody else?

Yes. Mine died I think because I put an acrylic cover over my sump to slow down evaporation, AND my husband put a plastic mesh thing on the water surface...and I think the combination of both deprived enough light from my chaeto. Up until doing those 2 things, my chaeto was big, fluffy, and lush. When I fished it out to rotate it, the whole thing collapsed in itself. I posted about it -- see https://www.livingreefs.com/forums/reef-talk/16853-apparently-lack-of-green-thumb-applies-in-aquariums.html
