cheato shrinking?

whats up guys? i have been working 7 days a week for the last month. i kind of been neglecting my tank. today when i got home i noticed that the cheato in my sump looked a little smaller than it was. it also feels a little mushy. what do you guys think would cause this?

Does the bulb over it need changing? And how is your water quality? If it's good, the chaeto will tend to shrink (it won't take up as many nutrients).

thanks Biff. i don't think my light was going on when it was supposed to. the timer was messed up. do you think not enough light could cause this?

Definitely could be the cause.
