a fish store near me is selling lr for $2.99 a lb, should i just go and buy it all for the heck of it and keep in it my extra live rock tank in my basement just in case.

This is my reef club....
If you can afford to do it I would. Then you can resale it for very little profit to new reefers in your area or use it on a new set up some day.

There's a lot of cheap LR out there is crap and not worth the money. Pick up the LR and really look at it. Is it one third or half covered with coralline? Does it look like there's anything living on it?
