what is the best way ( not the fastest) to cycle a tank . this tank is a 55 high and from what i understand, is best suited for a show tank. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ive heard to use, live rocks, live sand and a checmial called special blend. Others here have there own opnions.

Just toss in a piece of table shrimp, when your ammonia is at zero, tank is safe for fish. But a 55 tall tank is not a great FOWLR tank because its small size will prevent you from keeping many of the cool FOWLR fish and you can keep very many fish (max 5). I would suggest doing a reef, which can be easier than keeping some fish.

hey little_fish about the shrimp is it put when the tank has zero ammonia or is it to help lower it to zero?
is it like a frozen shrimp or what?
should the flow be on during this or not?

when you first put the liverock in and water and some movement in the tank throw the shrimp right in.. unfrozen is better ( alot of nutrients are lost in the freezing process).. this will kick off your cycle first ammonia will rise then nitrite then nitrate, Once this process is done the tank is ready for fish( after your waterchange)..
