So that has been my problem all along!!
Yeah I know this is the problem. I had someone come out and take a look at it a couple years ago because the house was so hot in the summer. It's the AC unit that was originally on the house when it was built -- in the mid 80s. Still chugging along. I'm pretty much just waiting for it to die, they are so expensive.
