Drilling vs Overflow box

im having a hard time making a decision on getting my 55gal tank drilled or buying an overflow box. what should i do?

Drilling a hole in a tank seems to be tough for first time, but it was pretty easy afterwards. While drilling hole take following precautions
1. Two person needed ,one should handle drilling machine and another should pour water around drilling area using small hose or sponge.
2. Do not apply pressure on the glass
3. Run the driller in slow speed. Check the driller not in hammer mode.
4. Before drilling a hole on the tank, drill a hole in the waste plain glass.

The bottoms of tanks are usually tempered glass so that they can withstand the weight of everything in the tank without breaking, the sides can vary. I just got done researching the same thing because I was contemplating the same thing. I finally figured out that my sides weren't tempered, but still opted for the HOB Overflow for fear of effing it up anyway (I'm not handy with tools at all).

Here's a quick way to check the sides if you're still thinking about it.

How to tell if glass is tempered.
