Eric's 90 Gallon Upgrade

So I had to pull out one of the Anthias into a quarantine tank for treatment with Melafix. He had an injury on his face and I didn't realize it was a bacterial infection until I sent pictures to live aquaria. Unfortunately, while the Melafix seems to be clearing up the infection well the fish is not eating at all. He's just hovering in one corner of the quarantine tank.. I don't think he's going to make it.

On the plus side, Live Aquaria has agreed to extend my "Stay Alive" guarantee through the end of January so they'll replace him if he doesn't make it.

Like the tank Eric. I tried sending you a pm but don't have the 10 posts yet since I just joined... U happy with ur miracles tank? I'm actually getting quotes from same places u did on 48x24x24...

Yeah the tank looks great, and miracles was relatively easy to work with. The only complaint I have is that they didn't attach the overflow or bulkheads I purchased from them. Of course I had a non-traditional overflow done so that may have had something to do with it.

Little update. The one Anthias ended up dying from the bacterial infection, but LiveAquaria was relatively good about shipping out a replacement which is doing great. The Anthias finally seem to be building up a little bit of bulk.

I've also started following the Red Sea Coral Pro program, and while I've finally gotten my levels up to the desired points its too early to see how the corals respond.

The trick for the Anthias seems to have been Kent Marine's Zooplex. Its a zooplankton blend which of course is what the anthias eat naturally. Right now I'm feeding about 5ml daily. I'm still feeding some ArctiPods, Cyclopeeze, and Mysis on a rotating basis but this seems to have been the key.

I'm thinking of getting the BRS dosing pump which flows at 1.1 ml a minute and using that combined with a digital timed to autofeed the ZooPlex 2x a day, 3.3ml each time. Probably once shortly after the lights come on, and once in the middle of the day. I'll count on the ZooPlex to keep the Anthias fed, and return to feeding the tank normally. Mysis/Rod's/Cyclopeeze every other day or so.

Thoughts on this?

Acropora - This got knocked behind a rock when I removed the damsel and was assumed lost. It shoed back up a few days ago after about 4 weeks under the rocks. Bleached totally white but polyps are extending so I'm hoping it will recover

One of my Acro frags has got brown jelly, and the blue colony on the left is bleaching on the bottom half. I'm sure its due to stress from my battles with maintaining Alkalinity, hopefully I'll get some CoralRx before its too late and they'll perk up. Everything else is doing good.

How is your expirience with keeping sps in such a young tank? I've been reading they should be in aged tanks. I myself just set up my nano tank and put a green birdsnest in it to see how it would do. tanks looks great!

Well, I've got some SPS issues at the moment do we'll need to see how that plays out. Though I think they are more due to my inexperience than the tank being young. Otherwise I've been serif some decent growth and good colors. One thing to keep in mind is that I cured my rock (Marco dry) in a bin in my garage for about 2 months brides I received this tank. During that time I fed the rock 1 table shrimp a week and some fish food every other day. I wanted to not just turn the dry rock live but ensure that I had a good biological filter established before I placed it in the tank. My setup also included a bottle of Dr. Tim's denitrifying bacteria (it's legit) and I continue to add Prodibio BioDigest regularly. I saw no cycle and had fish and coral in the tank 3 days after setting up the tank.

Finally, I do run Biopellets which have kept my nitrate levels undetectable, though the algae and Cyano continue to remind me that I still have excess phosphate and have not achieved a ULNS.

Running SPS (or adding anthias) this early has been a gamble but I prepped heavily for it and things seem to have worked out. Like I said though I may be on the verge of loosing two Acropora Corals but hopefully they'll pull through.
