Give me some odds: moving tank

I'm going to move my tank to another room. I will be doing a complete drain and will be getting rid of the sand and replacing it with new, well rinsed, black sand. 90% of the water will be reused and the tank will only be empty for a VERY short period.

What are my odds at avoiding a cycle? LR will never be exposed to air, nor will the corals or other livestock. Any advice on keeping the parameters in check throughout this process?

For a short move like that, you really don't need to worry about it. Just start it and finish it as quickly as you can and everything will be fine.

I recently bought a whole setup of Craigslist and moved it an hour down the road to my home. I did basically what you're planning (without changing the sand) and had zero casualties!
