green water

Exactly how green is it? A tint of green? Or is the water green?

Could be some wierd die off, or maybe something different with the lighting... Is it in direct sunlight at all during the day? I ask because my tank gets some sun, not a lot, which makes the water look greenish, but it doesnt last.

Or it could be an algae outbreak in your water column. No way to tell unless you tell us what your water parameters are and/or post a picture.

its just a tent green i had the lady at the pet store test my water i dont remaber what it was i know she said my ammonia was one higher then it should be im geting it test agin to day i will write it all down

Holy crapola!! Do some big water changes. Start doing 10 to 20% every day or every other day until your nitrates get down below 20. 160 is really really high (hey, I've been there though!!). If you want to do more at a time, you can safely do up to 40% at a time, but I wouldn't do any more than that.

Do you have any animals in your tank?? Nitrates that high are usually fatal.

Have you been doing regular water changes until now, or did you just let things go?
