hi guys my name is nate, i work at petco as the reptile specialist and companion animal manager in training, we have really been getting some beautiful fish in the saltwater section for the past few months, so i bought a book to do a little research about it. I did a chiclid tank about 2 years ago and i worked fine! i had great success, but they got huge and i couldnt afford a new tank at the time and had to sell them :( but now i have a 29 gallon ready to go for some saltwater fish. From my research it seems like ill only be able to have about 3 fish, i was thinking 2 clownfish, and maybe a coral beauty dwarf angel? and then my cleanup crew. anyways, thank you for reading, i cant wait to start exploring the forums!

Welcome, Nate! This is the best saltwater forum I have found (I am new to the saltwater thing as well). You might want to look up some nano stuff, since your tank is technically a nano by saltwater standards. What kind of clowns are you going to go with? Some are more aggressive/territorial/bigger than others. I just got my ocellaris clowns last night from a petco (coincidentally).

There is a lot of information out there. The best advice I've had was from this website - read EVERYTHING you can, throw half of it away, and make your own opinion. You can generally tell when someone has no idea what they are talking about. What usually helps me is cross-referencing people - look at the tanks in their signature lines, and if the comment they made is not from experience, you can pretty much ignore it since they are just regurgitating what they've heard or read somewhere.

Another hidden gem that has been revealed to me (by Ted, who gave me the above advice about making up your own mind) and has helped the most out of all the stuff floating around on the interwebs is this youtube channel (look at his nano lagoon series). Indo-Pacific Sea Farms - YouTube He goes through the saltwater cycling process (which is a little different than freshwater) and some DIY stuff.

If you have a question about anything, feel free to ask. Everyone is incredibly helpful and I have always received help on a question within a day or two at the most.

oh ok erin, i was thinking about some ocellaris clowns, maybe just two, then if a coral beauty is too big for a 29 gallon, maybe one or two firefish as well as the clowns?
