i have a 20g tall with coral and 2 clowns. My dual bio-wheel filter i have taken off the wheels, clean it every 3 weeks, and have a mesh bag of carbon, and another with GFO. I turned it off to feed, and the tank makes 0 noise. I do 3 gallon water changes every saturaday. How much would it matter by removing the filter. I only use it for the media, and the extra water circulation. I already have 3 powerheads in the tank as well. I'm aware they can be nitrate factory's, so I make sure and clean it every third WC.
