How big is my new tank

I assumed it was a 40 or 45, because thats how much water it took filling up. Now I left a good inch from the top. The question is, when I use the online calculators, it comes in at a 50g tank. The measurements are 36X16X21. What is it?

(36" x 16" x 21") / 231 cu in = 52.36 gallons
Assume it is an unconventional 55 gallon tank.
You do not state whether the measurements are the inside or outside of the tank. The above calculations assume they are inside measurements.
