How much sand for a 1/2 inch sand bed??

    I'm going out to grab some sand for my 55 gallon reef tomorrow.. How many pounds do you think I'll need for about a 1/2 inch sand bed??

    Is it a standard 55 gallon?

    If so, for 1/2 inch you'd be looking at about 30-35 lbs.

    You should really aim for at least an inch, though.

    Here is a nice calculator that should help you determine closely how much sand you need:
    Aquarium Calculator - Unit Conversion Tables

    At the bottom, put in the lenght plus width and the sand depth and it should give a good answer.

    A half inch sand bed is fine, you just dont want to go over two inches
