FAMILY - Pomacentridae

SCIENTIFIC NAME - Dascyllus Aruanus

COMMON NAME - Humbug Dascyllus (Striped Damselfish)

SIZE - 3.1" (8 cm)

RANGE - Indo Pacific

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE - 20 US Gal. (76 L)

FOODS AND FEEDING - Varied marine diet for carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, mysid shrimp, vitamin enriched brine shrimp, flake, frozen, live, and flake preparations. Feed at least 2 times a day.

AQUARIUM SUITABILITY - 10

REEF COMPATIBILITY - Larger specimens may eat small crustaceans, ok with sessile invertebrates.

CAPTIVE CARE - Will eat some algae, a cute little fish as a juvenile but beware as they will become very aggressive in a community tank as they mature, young specimens can be kept in groups, as adults keep only one or a mated pair per tank, will fight with other damselfish and pick on docile tankmates. Keep in a moderately aggressive tank (eels, triggerfishes, larger dottybacks, angelfishes, puffers) and provide plenty of hiding places even more so for juveniles. This fish is an excellent fish for the aggressive community and will readily acclimate to captivity, will accept most marine fare provided.
