I am new to the led lighting world. I have a 36 gallon half moon tank and I am thinking about new LED system, I am just unsure as too what specs are needed.

I dont know, its weird, i dont understand it, but Sam, on her build thread has some decent PAR ratings with her 1w from what i can gather.
But saying that though, you cant go wrong with 3w Cree. Maybe check these fellas out. Rapid LED Home Page
 
Samantha has the Ecoray which is 1 watt LEDs with optics. That would be a good choice over a 32 gallon I'm guessing (don't know the dimensions) stay away from the cheap knock offs from China found all over EBay right now
 
definatly stay away from the ML does not have the right amount of 1w leds,barely enough to light a tank
i am trying several types of 3w chinese to see if they compare t the crees,6.00 per led from rapid is kinda high to me,i did however buy some drivers from them 4 days ago and they still have not shipped yet so dont know yet.
