Lighting / Protein Skimmer

Are these products overkill for my 28 Gal Tank. I want to be able to place a mixture of corals. I am looking at this lightly and I am looking at this protein skimmer.
Light:
Odyssea Metal Halide System

Skimmer:
Reef Octopus Hang-on-the-Back with Filter system | CoralVue

I was also looking at the LEDs
But it is only 1 watt and I read mixed reviews

Please tell me what you guys think.

both of those would be fine for your tank... are you doing a sump?

No sump, though I would love too. My stand will only fit a 5.5 gal tank so I was told it would be dangerous. So I will do partial water changes more often. I might get a hang on the back refuguim if I will have room. Did anyone take at the LEDs? Will they be okay too I'm worried about heat with the hylide

If it is a tank that small you don't need a skimmer. Just keep up with regular water changes.

The display tank is 28 gals but if I were to setup a dump I could only fit a 5.5 gal in the stand. So I was told not to do a sump b/c it could be dangerous regarding backflow. I still want a skimmer though. The lighting I'm not sure what to go with.

Lighting from Odyssea is good, the only problem is the fan that comes with the MH does not control the heat too good. I had to buy a table top fan to blow across the water to keep the temp stable, otherwise it fluctuated.
