Metal screen in tank

I wanted to use a stainless screen on my overflow line into the fuge (pic attached) since the line goes below the waterline so its not noisy, but I don't want critters to go up the line either. Its the same one I use on my boat's bait box. Is this OK to do? :confused: I've read about copper but not stainless steel.

Personally, I wouldn't put any kind of metal in my tank (if I can help it). I would use a plastic screen or, you can get a solid PVC cap and either slot it or drill holes into it to make a drain.

If you use a high grade of stainless steel such as SX 316 then it should resist corrosion from saltwater.

If you go to Walmart, in the arts and crafts section, they have these awesome plastic mesh things. I always have them handy for whatever tank project I want to do (in fact, I built a box for my chaeto in my fuge with it.
