Reefing newb
We are moving from CA tO FL. I am bringing my tank but empty of course. Would it be ok to bag up the sand and use it to start up the tank in FL? It's been in my tank over 4 years and would be sitting in a moving truck for 2 weeks. My guess is no, get rid of it.

to me it would be more of a pain bagging it up and bringing it..
I have reused sand in the past with no problems( just had to go through cycling all over again.. But I would just get new when I got there and it doesnt have to be live sand you buy just aragonite,, it will liven up...

You might save a couple of cups and try and keep it with some water and keep it from getting too hot or cold to get some biodiversity going when you restart the tank, but i wouldnt keep all of it.

If finances are an issue, save the sand, but rinse it out very well and re-use it. That way you won't have to buy another large amount of sand.
