Mushroom coral??

Reefing newb
This little fella was in the tank when I got it and I was told it was a plate coral but that was all the info I got. It was sitting on a rock but kept getting knocked off so now it's just been sitting on the bottom of the tank but seems happy. Sometimes it blows up like a jelly fish or else it's pretty flat with little fingers coming off it and it's about the size of a nickle.

Wondering what it's official name is, how big could it get and if it's OK sitting on the bottom or should I be doing something else with it?

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

And yes, it is very tiny but it sure is animated and interesting to watch.

Yup it is a plate coral.
It is one of the few coral species that actually do not attach to a substrate and gets knocked around in the reef.
The sand bed/bottom would the the safest spot for it.

I love plate corals but I cannot keep them in my tank because my crazy clown tries to host them and ends up injuring the coral :(
