New to FO marine!

Reefing newb
Hi everyone! Greetings from Calgary! I have a brand new (almost) 90G setup. I bought it second hand with most of the live rock, so my biological filter is pretty good. I'm still cycling cause I'm having a small nitrate problem, but it's getting better. My question is, I have this rock that I'd really like to place in my tank. It's not a living rock, although I hope that eventually it will become populated enough to look natural. It has moss on it. I'm attempting to get this moss off without using chemicals that could harm my tank. Any advice? I will not place this rock until I know for sure it's not going to cause any harm.

Here it is!

Can't tell really. Is that a Red Brittle Star? Stay away from the green ones. I have recently lost two Cleaner Shrimp to a large green one.
