New Water?

Hey all! Question for ya. So when needing to add water to my aquarium, do I add freshwater or saltwater to the aquarium? I've been adding RO freshwater w/buffering agent for the evaporation in the water. If I get the freshwater is it ok to add my reef crystals plus the buffering agent to the 5g container?

when you do water changes you do straight saltwater, when you top off just freshwater..

if you dont have much in your tank.
regular water changes will do just fine for you.
no need to complicate this process by adding all this stuff
your using R/O water wich is good for top offs.

Knucklehead is correct. Water evaporates and leaves the salt behind, so you need to top off with fresh water. Only add saltwater if you remove saltwater during a water change.

This question seems to come up a lot. Usually it means the person hasn't learned much about the techniques of reefkeeping. I'd recommend you grab a good book on amazon about all the techniques and whatnot.

Not a personal slam Josh, just thinking back to when I started and the millions of questions I had. Besides this awesome forum, a few good books really helped me along the way! read read read, you'll be amazed at all the different (and sometimes contradicting) advice you get, but it'll build a strong foundation.
