I think you would be better off with the GFO reactor, there are better and cheaper ways of getting your nitrates down.
Nitrate still high after 80% water change, seeking some ideas!!

Ok just rinsed out the bio cubes that I took out in a big tupperware bowl (won't be telling the wife) and I expected much worse! I think as I get closer to the bottom it will get worse this was the very top layer since they stack up nicely on each other. Still stuff came out though. LFS said I didn't have to replace with the rubble rock since I have a DSB. I hope they're right will keep an eye out but don't expect a cycle. I agree I think I need to get phosphates down with the GFO and keep working on the bio cube removal as a first step to get those nitrates down.

I run GFO and just started the bio-pellets (different than bio-balls and which I'm guessing is what the LFS store was suggesting instead of GFO). If you do decide to go that route you have to be incredibly careful introducing the pellets into a high nutrient system, with so much food in the water the bacteria can grow too fast and suck all of the oxygen out of your system...killing everything.
